6/10/2023 0 Comments The grand strategy of philip ii![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He then explores the surviving documentation (from the Habsburgs, their allies, and their adversaries) on the formation of strategy in three crucial case studies: Philip’s unsuccessful efforts to maintain his authority in the Netherlands, his defective peacetime management of foreign relations with Scotland and England, and his failed Armada campaign against England. Geoffrey Parker begins by defining the characteristics of Spain’s strategic culture: the king’s distinctive system of government, the “information overload” that threatened to engulf it, and the various strategic priorities and assumptions used to overcome the disparity between aims and means. The author investigates the strengths and weaknesses of Philip’s strategic vision, the priorities that underlay his policies, the practices and prejudices that influenced his decision-making, and the external factors that affected the achievement of his goals. From 1556 until his death in 1598, Philip II of Spain ruled the first global empire in history, yet no one so far has analyzed precisely how he accomplished this feat. ![]() ![]() ![]() "A masterfully crafted, brutally compelling Norse-inspired epic." -Anthony Ryan It’s everything I’ve come to expect from a John Gwynne book." -Robin Hobb “There is not a dull chapter in this fantasy epic.” -Vulture (Best of the Year) and bring about a battle that will shake the foundations of the earth. Like water or electricity, it’s most forceful when it surges. It is open, participatory, and peer-driven. New power operates differently, like a current. It is closed, inaccessible, and leader-driven. Once gained, it is jealously guarded, and the powerful have a substantial store of it to spend. Two fresh voices to HBR-Jeremy Heimans, cofounder of Purpose and Avaaz, and Henry Timms, director of the 92nd Street Y in New York-offer a framework for organizations seeking to effectively use the two distinct forces of “old power” and “new power.” Old power, the authors argue, works like a currency. But it’s difficult to understand what power actually is in this changed world, and how to gain more of it. So what I ended up doing was reading the introductory material, and then I spent about 5 hours going through the index and just looking at all the letters on topics that appealed to me, like ones on critiques, anachronisms, characterization, etc. This is simply because it consists entirely of one-sided correspondence from Margaret Mitchell to loads of various people-fans, critics, actors, directors, friends, on and on. First of all, as far as I'm concerned there is no way to read this book straight from the beginning to the end. This is a review of the actual Gone With the Wind Letters: 1936-1949 book, not a review of the book Gone With the Wind which is annoyingly the case with many of the reviews for this book. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Waste Lands -The Dark Tower 3 Audiobook The lady mixes a reflection on the periods with comments on the bare state of her existing presence I check out, a great deal of the evening, and also go southern in wintertime.
